As the saying goes, “it takes money to make money.” There are a number of hidden costs that come with selling a home that can cut into your potential revenues. While you may think, “what does it matter if my home is staged? Buyers are going to completely change my place after purchasing it.” This is true, but home buyers gravitate to houses that they can see themselves living in. Places that fit their taste. A primary technique for accomplishing that is house staging because it builds an environment that’s inviting to prospective home buyers. However, staging can cost over $1,000.00 on average, according to a recent CNBC report.
The outside of your house needs to be inviting as well. This includes lawn maintenance and landscaping. Unless, you have the time and ability to maintain your yard, you’ll need to hire a company. Lawn care companies, on average, cost $66.00 per visit. The longer it takes to sell your home, the more visits it will require.
Even if it you have moved out of your house, it’s important to maintain the power and water in your home for several reasons. For marketability standpoint, your home will be more inviting if potential buyers can turn on the lights and if the air conditioning or heat is on, depending on the time of the year. Also, if the power is not on in your house, it can become a target for thieves.
